Violent Crimes Rise With Temperature

Most people welcome the warmer weather, but the Syracuse Police Department thinks the recent shootings are a result of rising temperatures. Lieutenant Joe Cecile (SEE-sul) acknowledges that while there are "peaks and valleys" to the violent crimes, "the weather" is certainly a variable.

He says that "When it's nicer out, people tend to stay out more often, and... these violent interactions will occur more frequently...when it's warm out." The violent interactions Cecile is referring to are the four shootings in four days in Syracuse, which has left two dead and two more wounded.

Police believe the shootings are not related and that it is not unusual for the city to get a string of shootings in a short period of time. Syracuse residents looking for a respite from the recent shootings do not appear to be in luck as tomorrow's forecast is predicting temperatures approaching 90 degrees with only a ten percent chance of precipitation.
