At a news conference at the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University today, Syracuse Mayoral candidate Joe Nicoletti announced his plan to mordernize the city government. Nicoletti is one of three Democratic candidates running for the office.

He says that the Syracuse government is stagnant and is operating with a structure that has seen little change since the 1960's. He has identified what he thinks is the direction the city government must take to get out of the bog saying "government modernization, sustainability, and consolidation is the wave of the future."

Part of the modernization and sustainability includes rewarding projects that make environmentally sound efforts with economic development grants. Projects that make environmentally sound efforts include: "storm water drain off...greening... (and) providing for green technology and energy efficiency technology within the building."

Nicoletti has an ambitious time table for these initiatives, planning on starting the initiatives immediately when he gets into office. But for that to happen, he has to first win the primary in September or attempt to win the election as an Independent.
