Syracuse Car Washes Feeling the Heat

July 14th, 2009

Local car washes are having a tough time with the rainy weather in Syracuse this summer. Most people won't go to a car wash when it's raining, just to avoid mud splashes or rain spots. Maybe they don't want to pay for work that's being done already by the rain. Either way, rain spells poor business for car washes. The first six weeks of June and July were especially bad. The National Weather Service says it's the wettest summer in over 30 years. Lately though, the weather has been good.

"Generally the sunshine does bring a lot of business, especially if we've had a lot of nasty weather days- a lot of rain, a lot of clouds," says Josh Lawless, car wash supervisor for Delta Sonic Car Wash on Erie Boulevard. "If we get two, three sunny days in a row our business tends to pick up."

The last real downpour was on July 11th and it's been good weather since then with highs in the 70s and 80s.
