Syracuse - The soon to be shut down New Process Gear plant in Dewitt could soon see new life. The D’Arcinoff Group, an alternative technology development company out of Washington DC, is looking to purchase retired auto plants in New York and repurpose them to make wind turbines. Michael Darcy, the group’s CEO, says their new wind turbine was designed to be manufactured using the same processes, machines, and workers found in auto plants. New Process Gear is one of these plants.

“The economic development folks are beating the bushes to make sure we have all the different alternatives presented to us, I think they are hoping to have that to us by middle to end of this week, and then we can really enter into negotiations for the individual sites” Says Darcy.

The deal would employ 12,000 people in the New York area and the United Auto Workers Union is willing to work with the D’Arcinoff Group says Darcy.
