Syracuse Zoo wants rain to go away

7/27/09 By Sean O'Brien

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse is an affordable way for families to have fun. And during this recession where people are looking for more local attractions, the zoo was expecting good attendance numbers throughout the summer. However with one of the rainest summers on record in three decades, people have been shying away from outdoor activities. The head of the zoo’s public relations, Lorrell Walter says the weather has been an issue, “With the whole staycation thing thats used to be the trend we really expected to see a jump in attendance. However Mother Nature has not really been our friend. And because we are so much outdoors we are very weather driven.”
Although they were looking for great attendance numbers this summer, Walter says things are not all bad. She says the zoo’s numbers are down just slightly from last summers attendance which were the highest since 2002. And they would be happy if the attendance was on par with last years.
