Salvation Army Sends Kids to Camp

July 21, 2009

Seventy-eight local city kids, ages six through twelve, are at Long Point Camp on Seneca Lake tonight. The Salvation Army offers the camp free of charge to children whose parents might not have been able to afford a vacation. But camp coordinator Lynn Hy says the camp is open to anyone in Onondaga county.
The kids will be able to go boating, swimming and at night enjoy campfires. But Hy says if it rains, they have indoor activities as well; such as a talent show.
Camp counselors come from all over the world to work at the camp. Hy says "It's really exposing the children to a huge set of different types of people and cultures. And the kids really learn a lot from that."

Hy says they come as far away as England and different countries in Africa, and as close as Canada and parts of New York.
