Syracuse’s Roller Derby team has a home game this Saturday. Assault City is an all women’s team that plays only three home games a year.

Johanna Bolos, president and skater for the team has been with the team since it started in 2007. They travel around the Northeastern part of the U.S. to play against different teams.

Roller Derby is a physical sport where players are shoved out of the way and knocked down to score points. Even though it's rough, Bolos says, “We try to keep it very family friendly; there is no swearing, no craziness. It’s a little edgier then your normal sporting event.”

According to Bolos, Assault City is hopes to be able to be considered a professional team sometime soon. In order to do so, they have to join WFTDA, which stands for Women's Flat Track Derby Association. Once a member of WFTDA, they would be playing in a professional league. But, unlike most professional sports, they won't get paid to play.

Assault City's game is this Saturday at the Greater Baldwinsville Arena at 7 p.m.
