Teenage Parents

Program Steers Teenage Parents Away from Second Pregnancy
July 14, 2009

Syracuse teenage parents are becoming more responsible and are trying to become better parents with help from organizations.

Teen Parents and Babies (TP&B), a program of Children’s Consortium, helps teenage parents get basic needs for their families and guides them to get proper education.

"In my current caseload, out of 8 clients, 6 either are still in school, working towards their GED, or already have their GED. The other two are new clients that will eventually get into GED programs" said Stephanie McFetridge, the Early Childhood Specialist of TP&B.

TP&B also said in 2007, there were 25 teenage girls in the program and none became pregnant again while they were involved in the program. This year also, none of the teenagers have become pregnant with a second child.
