For the first time The New York Jets are holding their preseason training camp at SUNY Cortland in the town of Cortland N.Y. Many people in the town and surrounding areas are clearly excited about the event, this is evident from the signs and painted roads leading to the camp. Normally the Jets train on Long Island, but this year they decided that the facilities at SUNY Cortland would suit them better.

Local Impact

Many businesses are excited about the camp coming to Cortland because of the obvious boost in revenue for the summer. However, there is one restaurant in particular that is very excited to have the football team in town. Doug's Fish Fry is located just next to the fields where the Jets are practicing everyday. Owner Mark Braun says that he has been a Jets fan for over thirty years, and having the team in Cortland means more than just the extra business to him.

Driving towards Doug's right away you see a banner the owner put out to welcome the football team to town. Once inside you realize the banner is only the tip of the iceberg. Braun has brought memorabilia from home in to decorate the restaurant. Pictures, banners, helmets, and murals which he is having players, staff, and media sign as they come visit. He also has his staff serving the customers in Jets jerseys to show their soliderity. Braun says that its been great seeing the players and staff in his restaurant.

Excitement for Cortland

Braun says that the training camp has infused Cortland with a great amount of excitment and enthusiasm among people who come in to eat at the restaurant. Braun thinks everything the team has done for the town is great and hopes that in the future the Jets decide they want to continue training in Cortland.
