August 5, 2009

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announces plan to help New York children who suffer from asthma.
Statistics on asthma in the state of New York:
  • Over 370,000 New York Children Suffer from Asthma, 14 Percent of Low-Income Children
  • More Than 40,000 New York Children Hospitalized Overnight for Asthma from 2005 to 2007
  • In Central New York, over 17,000 children suffer from asthma. Nearly 900 were hospitalized overnight for their asthma between 2005 and 2007
Gillibrand says she plans to provide free inhalers to children at school, and also educated families and children in asthma prevention.   She is asking for 100 million dollars for the program, and the money will come from the No Child Left Behind fund.

“All New York children deserve the opportunity to grow up strong, healthy and successful,” Senator Gillibrand said.
