Alpha Kappa Alpha Syracuse Chapter address National Sorority Conflict

SYRACUSE N.Y.- Members of the first Black sorority, wait the decision of International president, Barbara McKinzie who is facing law suits over personal spending. she is accused of spending hundred thousands of dollars of the sorority's funds on personal gifts and a wax sculpture of herself that was placed in the National Great Blacks Wax Museum in Baltimore Maryland. McKinzie denies personal use of sorority funds and says the accusations do not follow the ideals of Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Lorraine Coleman, member and former president of the Syracuse graduate chapter for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority says everyone is waiting to see what the truth of the matter is, but until then, her mission is to do what ever it takes for the good of the organization. Whatever the outcome with the current president, the sorority's legacy will not die.

"I am sad, that there is this public controversy which shows Alpha Kappa Alpha in a negative light at this time, but Alpha Kappa Alpha is a very strong organization of women of courage and character" Coleman says.

Coleman says one individual will not harm such phenomenal group, and it won't keep this group from moving forward.

"well I think, the organization is bigger than any one person, and that Alpha Kappa Alpha will carry on as a great organization that it has been for 101 years now."

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority continues it's mission to focus on:

-Service to all Mankind
-cultivate high scholastic and ethical standards
-promote unity among college women
-Stregnthening of the Black family
-maintaining progressive interest in college life
-Issues of the World community
