A Local Legend Plays Tonight in Liverpool

August 5th, 2009

SYRACUSE, N.Y.-- Sitting in a store on James Street called Books & Memories is fitting for a man like Dan Elliott. Elliott sang and continues to sing for the Monterays, the longest working band in Central New York. The band started in 1962 but took off when Elliott joined in 1966, even hitting the charts in the late '60s. He speaks about opening for the Beach Boys, Gerry & the Pacemakers, and other luminaries. But he feels a special connection about being home, being able to play in front of a Liverpool crowd at tonight's "Liverpool is the Place" concert series.

As he spoke, the Beatles played in the background. Elliott noted that there was a parallel to be drawn. The music he will be playing tonight are from some of the world's great songwriters, including those most famous legends from Liverpool (England). And even though the musical legend from near Liverpool (New York) might not be as famous, he can still give people a good time.
