Syracuse Firefighters
7/20/2009
Providing fire suppression education while also saving lives, the Syracuse firefighters work 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
First Deputy Fire Chief Edward Kurtz says the firefighters are proud of what they do.
Kurtz says at retirement many firefighters would choose the career again when asked if being a firefighter was worth the toll on their bodies and families.
With an average retirement of 24 years a firefighter can make up to 30 thousand dollars a year.
Kurtz says this year the applicant pool to become a Syracuse firefighter was larger than ever with over 1000 people applying.
