A program at started at Syracuse University is helping disabled veterans learn how to start a business. The program is called Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans.
EBV has now grown to 4 other Universities.
The Universities are:
· UCLA Anderson
· Florida State University
· Purdue University
· Texas A & M
With the 5 different Universities in partnership with EBV, the programs can teach more than 150 veterans this year. Mike Haynie, the founder, says entrepreneurship is one of the best ways for disabled veterans to make a living.
The EVB takes place in 3 stages
Phase I: delegates participate in a self-study curriculum online
Phase II: nine day residency at one of the EBV Universities
Phase III: delegates are provided with 12 months of ongoing support and mentorship
The program is FREE for the veterans chosen. The program costs about $5,000 for each veteran, and all of the money is collected through private donations.
This year more than 300 veterans applied and only 170 were chosen. Haynie says denying vets the opportunity to learn is the "hardest part about the whole process."
EBV was named a National Best Practice for serving soldiers and their families by the Army. Because of this recognition, Haynie expects the number of applicants to rise.
